with the two modern views below, an AM10 class 310 unit peeps between the crossing gate and post on a gloomy Saturday afternoon in May 1972 at Newton Road. The service was 2G50 New St - Walsall. This type has buffers fitted...

Yes, and having buffers they could be towed if they break down. Unlike all this bufferless drivel thats about now that blocks the line for hours if it fails... Great old shot by the way. I like the little 310 and big e.g. 050 running number they used to have.
